new straw hat from the market in Beaune. I was burning in the sun! Also a new necklace from the same market…it was just too pretty and my favorite color and a good price… and other than that my favorite hippie pants and moccasin ankle boots (i need to replace them soon I think…or have them resoled… hum…) listening to my friend Vivienne’s music that I recently requested… and looking to go for lunch with a friend and get some studying done!
I got to see my pookiekins (STACCCCCYYYYY) this weekend because her host family went to Beaune for some wine tasting/buying and a weekend under the sun in Burgundy! Wooo
Pierre and I visited one of the oldest (free!) hospitals in the world 500+ years and going. The historic building was built in the 1440’s and was run by the religious institutions arm in arm with apothecaries and doctors right up until the 60s, when the buildings were restored and then the hospital was moved to a more modern building that corresponds better with modern medicinal practice (big drafty rooms with no heat aren’t ideal for taking care of patients) Beautiful building…The guy who built it was totally wrapped around his wife’s little finger. She was 20 when they married…he was, as pierre put it ‘an old crouton’ at the crusty old age of 48…and I think pretty much was just doing what made HER happy.
Nice weekend full of wine, food and camping. Now off to my week!

new glasses, crazy hair, favorite (if shrunken multiple times and full of holes!) cashmere thrifted sweater… coughing has not subsided. I’m lesson planning and trying to figure out lesson ideas for my summer. I have two families who will continue lessons on thru the summer…soooooo
I also need to work on school. BLAH.

I spend EVERy afternoon thinking about this:

I love/hate the city:

Pros:

Cons:

In other news: making rhubarb crumble with rhubarb from the back yard (I hope it’s technically in our plot…)

It’s labor day in France. This was a four day weekend in the working world…but not in academia. Therefore I had work on Monday. Today is also my brother’s 21st b-day! Both his younger and older sister got to experience legal drinking at 18 abroad ;) we’ve beat him to the punch!

I did some spring cleaning this weekend. I want to finish, but don’t feel THAT motivated. I’ll have to drink a coffee sometime this week and feel panicky about how not clean certain rooms are, and then clean them.

This coming weekend we’re headed to a wedding in Alsace. Hoorah for a party!!! (second wedding in a 3 week stretch. There will be another one in September.)

Balcony garden (pre being rearranged…more photos soooooon)

Haircut + what I wore :)

Don’t mind my hair…check out my fat lard kitty cat

Switzerland April 2012

wavy bob, long white dress and purple tights… and fresh squeezed orange juice. (which is great cause while I LOVE OJ, I don’t like eating Oranges…)I went grocery shopping this morning…SUNSUNSUNSUNSUN!!!
My grocery list:
cauliflower
avocados
mango
yogurt
carrots
fennel
eggs
oranges
purple cabbage
red onion
cooking onions
mushrooms
broccoli
I love the store where I buy veggies. They only have produce and dairy. I am in and out in less than 15 minutes for the majority of my shopping. It’s very obvious what each food is. It’s even marked where it’s from (france/spain/mali???) It smells like fruit and dirt, honest and clean. I usually go once a week or so to this store. It depends on whether or not I buy enough food. We usually make just enough for the two of us, plus a tad of leftovers for my lunch the next day. Annnd we don’t throw out a lot of food…probably because I go shopping so often and most of our fruits and vegetables are on display in the kitchen instead of in the fridge, forgotten and sad.

In contrast…when I go to the supermarket, it is so much easier to get caught up in impulse buys. I also spend double the time just trying to find things, compare everything, get a good deal etc. And they smell industrial and weird. Except the cheese aisle, which smells pretty…fresh. But I generally buy things like tissues, TP,  razors, shampoo, cleaning supplies, vinegar etc at the supermarket.

The reason there is no meat on the list is because we buy a bulk package every 2 months directly from our favorite butcher (aaaa the meat quality in France….I wish you all could taste… though I do miss venison!!!) But the bulk package is nice because it has a number of cuts and meats that we like to eat and it comes down to less than 5 euros a meal for the meat, and it lasts almost 2 months.
Now, to prepare my tutoring lessons for this afternoon, eat my leftovers lunch (beer boiled beef and creamy mashed sweet potato!!!)
